Nut Graph

A paragraph summary of a story, the essence of what an article is about. Nut graf is a term used by american journalists to identify a paragraph that summarizes the basics of the article. Nut grafs are used especially in feature articles opposed to news articles that have a lead.
The nut graf is often the third or fourth paragraph of the story, and explains what the story is about. Nut graf is a shortening of the expression Nutshell Paragraph. The term can also be spelled "nut graph."
