Great Black and White Photographers II

Josef Koudelka is a Czech-French photographer born on January 10, 1938 in Moravia. Moravia is part of the Czech Republic. Koudelka received a degree in aeronautical engineering in 1961.

Koudelka originally took picture for magazines and theater performances. He cameback to his own projects after he did some work for others. He did a project over Romanian Gypsies where he photographed the Soviet invasion, in August 1968.  He published a book called "Caos. Fotografie di Josef Koudelka, Animal."

He took mostly pictures of war and things he thought had a deep meaning behind them. His biggest example of this is the pictures he took at the Soviet Invasion of 1968. He has won significant awards such as the Prix Nadar (1978), a Grand Prix National de la Photographie (1989), a Grand Prix Cartier-Bresson (1991), and the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography (1992). Significant exhibitions of his work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography, New York; the Hayward Gallery, London; the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art, Amsterdam; and the Palais de Tokyo, Paris. Koudelka hasn't died and he is 79 years old.

Finding information on Kouldelka is pretty difficult considering how small of a photographer he is. I tried my best but there isn't much information out about him.

The photos I have attached are from the Soviet Invasion of 1968. They show how the Romanians reacted the the invasion They took a stand and they were afraid. They rioted and came together. These photos are both full of emotion and they show the brutal truth of war.
